**In recent years Paradox Tilburg has been the spot to experience experimental and avant-garde music in an intimate setting on the Friday and Saturday of Roadburn. For the fifth year running, we’ve teamed up with this special, world-renowned jazz club to bring you: Ragnarök Trio (IS), 137 (UK), ZU (IT), Kameel (BE), Steamboat Zwitzerland (CH) & Heavy Jazz Jam by Ragnarök Extended Sekstet (INT),

KameelKameel is yet another singularity within Belgium’s spry experimental rock and jazz scenes. Propulsive EBM beats seamlessly marry with arpeggio-driven melodies and powerful riffs, blending all sorts of different sensibilities with a magpie’s spirit. Experimentation meets pure attitude, in yeoman’s terms, which might explain why the likes of Tim Vanhamel (Millionaire, Eagles of Death Metal ) and Rudy Trouvé (dEUS) eagerly enter Kameel’s orbit.

Latest LP Tales From A Sinister Farm finds the trio of Patrick Steenaerts (guitars), Hans Mullens (bass),and Geert Roelofs (drums) experimenting with more electronic influences – further expanding Kameel’s absurdist, delightfully contrarian whims: atmospheric, energetic and cinematic!

Steamboat SwitzerlandProg rock/neojazz/avant-garde oddity Steamboat Switzerland are from, you never guessed it, Switzerland. They however summon a sound far less self-explanatory: restless, free-form experimental rock compositions that seem to abide to a dream logic more so than any sort of predictable song structure – content in constant metamorphosis.

Truly astonishing, almost like a Moebius art piece transposed into music. Dominik Blum (Hammond), Marino Pliakas (basgitaar), Lucas Niggli (drums) play together with a playful inquisition that’s infectious, reinventing quote unquote ‘rock’ on the spot – an aquatic oasis of frequency, texture and pulse.

Heavy Jazz Jam: Ragnarök Extended Sekstet (IS/NL)The saga continues with Roadburn’s legendary annual Heavy Jazz Jam at Paradox, this year led by Ragnarök Trio – who, for this very special occasion – have mutated into the Ragnarök Extended Sextet. Alessandro Fongaro (bass), Jelle Roozenburg (guitars) and Björg Blöndal (vocals & effects) enter the arena alongside Thorkell Ragnar (guitars), Jesse Schilderink (tenor sax) and Jens Meijer (drums).

So yeah, that’s double the bludgeoning force and sheer ingenuity of an already impressive unit. Ragnarök Sextet will perform a potent mix of original compositions and free improvisation – a glorious plunge into the deep end you wouldn’t want to miss
